Dewatering

Dewatering Efficiency

The efficiency of dewatering units impacts the product quality and the overall operation of the coal preparation plant (CPP). Poorly performing dewatering equipment can cause issues with CPP operations in areas such as:

  • Product and reject handling;
  • Product moisture specification and gross CV;
  • Plant water balance;
  • Magnetite consumption;
  • Fine product loss; and
  • Overloading of circuits through recirculating load.

A higher than necessary CPP product moisture can lead to a significant loss in revenue for thermal coal producers.

QPS Consulting Services

QPS consultants are available to review designs and data and inspect units on site visits.

QPS staff can also troubleshoot and develop solutions to problems with dewatering equipment including:

  • Coarse coal centrifuges;
  • Fine coal centrifuges;
  • Screen bowl centrifuges;
  • Dewatering screens;
  • Vacuum filters:
    • Horizontal belt;
    • Disc; and
    • Drum.
  • Belt press filters.
