LIMN Flowsheet Development
Overview
The LIMN software package was developed by Dave Wiseman Pty Ltd as a flowsheet modelling program for coal and minerals processing. LIMN is considered the standard for CHPP modelling and simulation in Australia. LIMN is a proprietary add-on for Microsoft Excel and allows for large amounts of data storage and ease of database compatibility for efficiently assessing various process options. It has standard unit operation models and can easily incorporate simple spreadsheet models or more complicated macro-driven models as developed by the end-user.
The benefits of using LIMN as a process modelling tool in coal processing include:
- High degree of data resolution with fully customisable size and density increments;
- The ability to assess the behaviour of large numbers of different feed types through a CHPP;
- Constant improvement in model accuracy through the implementation of up to date empirical model data and flexibility in modelling emerging technologies; and
- Elimination of errors that may arise in alternative methods of flowsheet modelling due to insufficient accuracy.
QPS Capability and Experience
QPS personnel have extensive LIMN experience in a range of applications from complete plant solids, water and medium models to the abbreviated ‘solids only’ models used in prefeasibility studies. In addition to the standard capability provided by LIMN, QPS have developed a number of supplementary programs including:
- Advanced LIMN models for various process units;
- Automatic data collection, compilation and reconciliation programs for the creation of LIMN data matrices; and
- Feed and product blending programs for LIMN inputs and outputs.
These programs allow for non-laborious and cost effective large scale data acquisition and processing.
This expertise can be applied to developing models for CHPP design or upgrade, or to developing plant models as an aid to operations planning, optimisation and troubleshooting.
